We were hot BEFORE the Beatles came along !

We did everything together,
and practised our brains out !

My dad signed for it, and we bought
an ambulance to haul our equipment
and take trips in !

If you look closely, you can see the VOX
Royal Guardsmen Amps in the window !

Those were the true " Good Ole Days", and there will never be another era like it.

In closing, this time period was almost 40 years ago and photos are hard to come by. If you happen to be from that area of the country and remember the Blazers, we're looking for any old photos and stories you might have to offer. Please email and let me know what you have, we'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for allowing firstake recording studio to share some of the
"REAL GOOD OLE DAYS" with you, and please don't forget to sign our Guest Book, theres a link on our home ( index ) page !

The Fourth and FINAL variant of the Blazers produced our only album project which was financed by the local Jaycees and put together by Ferris Maloof. I think there were only 1,000 of these printed and they are quite rare now. This one is still unopened from its original shrink wrap, and is in MINT condition, as new.

We played every Saturday night at one the two Teen Canteens in Blue Ridge, Ga., and CopperHill, Tenn. I might add, we PACKED the place EVERY GIG !
Our biggest event, was opening for PaulRevere and the Raiders and Brian Hyland
in Atlanta at the Merchandise Mart. I know there are photos of that somewhere and, when and if I locate them, I'll post them here.

There were several variations of the Blazers
and I played in all of them.

The Members were :

First Original Band :
Skip Mckinney - Bass / Johnny McKinney - Guitar
Roger Mull - Drums /  Danny Davenport - Guitar

Second Variant :
Danny Davenport - Guitars,  / Skip McKinney - Vocals, Guitar, Johnny McKinney - Guitar
Ted Christopher - Drums

Third Variant :
Danny Davenport - Guitar, Organ, Vocals
Eddie Queen - Bass, Guitar, Organ, Vocals
Ted Christopher - Drums / Ronnie Thomas - Guitar Vocals
Tony Matthews - Bass

Fourth Vairant:
Danny Davenport - Guitar, Organ, Vocals
Eddie Queen - Bass, Guitar, Vocals, Organ
Larry Patterson - Drums / Bobby Ferguson - Vocals, Bass

Did everyone have a band in the 60s?

Please Bookmark firstake recording studio for future reference !

The Third Variant ( with the help of Ferris Maloof ) recorded ourvery first session in a real studio,
Master Sound Studios in Atlanta, and came away with two songs:
" Don't Pick on Me" and
" The Way it Was"
.
The only copy we had of the sessionwas in the form of this Acetate withone song on each side. I Still have it but age has taken its toll and its almost unplayable now. Luckily, I made a cassette copy about 15
years ago and that is still audible.

Its over folks.
The apathy was just too much for us to overcome.  Neither City, Blue Ridge or Copperhill, would help with a place to house our effort, so the dream will pass, along with the memories of such a wonderful time in the areas history.  This was a one time effort which will not come again to preserve it.  What a total waste of such a wonderful part of the areas history.

The Blazers / Canteen History will live on, but The NEW Canteen Dream
comes to an end!

The NEW PAINT JOB !

We played both the CopperHill
and Blue Ridge Canteens,
but Blue Ridge was always
considered our home.

The Birth of THE BLAZERS ! Johnny, Roger, Danny and Skip

UPDATE:   Ronnie Thomas has suffered a massive heart attack and will not fully recover.  He's now living at The LifeCare Center in Ducktown, Tn.  Ronnie was and will forever remain a vital part of The Blazers history.  He will always be remembered for his humor, wit and friendship to all who know and love him.

He played rythum guitar and sang harmony as a member of The red coat Blazers and also performed at one of our most exciting gigs with Paul Revere and The Raiders in Atlanta.

Please keep Ron and his family in your prayers and your memories and more than that, make a trip to visit him.  He responds to you and even sings with me when he remembers the song I sing.  It will do you good to visit.
